Seasonal Multi Activity Instructors
Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre. We are seeking flexible, enthusiastic, versatile, dynamic and organised Seasonal Multi Activity Outdoor Adventure Instructors to complement our full-time staff team for the 2020 season. It is anticipated there will be 35+ hours per week available during the peak season for suitably qualified applicants.
Exciting opportunities are now available at Haven Banks Outdoor Education in Exeter. In a pioneering and award winning partnership between Devon County Council and Exeter College, Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre provides a contemporary hub for outdoor activities for young people and adults from Exeter, Devon and across the region.
Successful applicants will hold a minimum of one National Governing Body leadership award and be able to demonstrate previous experience leading, coaching and mentoring groups and individuals of all ages and abilities and from every background.
Activity leadership qualifications could include: paddle sports, sailing, rock climbing, climbing wall, caving, mountain biking or archery.
You must be able to work alone, as well as part of the team and have a passion for delivering outdoor and adventurous activity programs which will inspire and motivate participants, enabling them to get the very best results.
Priority will ultimately focus on safe practice, as well as learning, enjoyment, and achievement as part of structured practical programs of activity.
The post will include delivery to all users of the Centre involving: * Approximately 80% outdoor instructional delivery work and 20% centre based admin and preparation time * Residentials as well as evening and weekend sessions. * Working in all weathers conditions. * Constantly and continually managing different groups and group members.

Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, situated on the Quayside in Exeter, is part of Exeter College and offers innovative outdoor education, training and recreation sessions to a wide range of customers. These include students training for outdoor education careers, individuals looking for short term recreational activity, individuals disengaged from education and professionals looking to develop their leadership skills.
We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Outdoor Activity Instructor to work alongside our team of staff. You will receive the very best practical and work based training and be given the opportunity to gain essential experience to achieve a variety of National Governing Body skills, coaching & leadership qualifications, as well as completing the Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship Standard– the perfect preparation to progress your career in the outdoor industry.
You should be passionate, enthusiastic, highly motivated and have the energy and drive to encourage others to fully participate in all areas of outdoor recreation, education and training. You will already have some experience of participating in outdoor adventure and potentially relevant qualifications to support. You should have excellent team working and communication skills, as well as being flexible to be able to adapt to changing circumstances, such as the varied weather conditions and program variations. You should also be prepared to work weekends and evenings on a rota basis.
Successful trainees receive a 13 month contract and training package before the gateway opens to the end point assessment (EPA). Other excellent benefits include 28 days annual leave, concessions for our College gym and exercise classes and discounted sports massage rates.
