St James School Ten Tors Training Notice
Dates:
Expedition Weekend: Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th April 2025.
Briefing: Wednesday 2nd April 1:30pm - 3:00pm
Route:
Yeah! The clocks will have gone forwards and we will get extra daylight hours, giving us extra time on foot!
Day 1 - Remaining on the south moor, saving our final training weekend for the north and an actual Ten Tors Challenge route, we are walking north from Ivybridge along the Two Moors Way. We will cross some recognisable areas, visited on our previous walk around Avon Dam Reservoir before continuing north through Ryder's Hill and on to previously visited Dartmeet, the starting point from our previous walk. Continuing on the TMW, we reach camp at Wind Tor having covered approximately 30km.
Although the daylight hours will have increased, with a longer day on foot, it is still likely we will be finishing in fading light so, please have easy access to your head torches!
It is also really important, as per the Mandatory Kit List, that you have water purification tablets available, with at least 2 x 1 litre water bottles available to rotate water purification. Also don't forget to fill water before getting in to camp!
Day 2 - Our path along the TMW continues taking us along the eastern edge of the moor, close to Fernworthy and Frenchbeer Rock before heading east along the Teign Vally to finish at Fingle Bridge
Overall Calculated Approximate Distance = 54.7 km (33.99 miles)
