Haven Banks has a reputation second to none with regards to the activity opportunities it provides for young people. The Centre has been providing school holiday activity courses and sessions for over 40 years, which is testament to the outstanding service we provide. Being Ofsted registered and holding numerous National Governing Body and HSE accreditations and recognitions, you can be assured your children are in the safest possible care.

The Centre provides a full and extensive range of outdoor and adventurous activity opportunities, for young people throughout the full six weeks of the school summer holidays, the full week of October, February and May half-terms and throughout the two week Easter holidays. A wide and varied programme offers 8-14 year olds a vast range of outdoor and adventurous activity opportunities. Activities are suited to all ability levels and, with beginner courses and improver courses available, there really is something for everyone regardless of the level of ability or confidence.

Courses and activity sessions include:

  • Beginner and Improver level courses, for those starting out AND those looking to expand their skills!
  • Week-long half-day courses in sailing, climbing or kayaking. Young people can work towards national awards and accreditation.
  • Multi Activity weeks provide an exhilarating choice of over 10 activities over the full week. Three options are available depending on the preferred activities.
  • Pick and mix activity days with a choice of 2-3 fantastic activities each day. Select your own activities and make your own bespoke course. Choose as many or few days as you require.

Little Adventurers!

Now we also provide courses for 5-8 year-olds: Little Adventurers. These half-day courses feature low-key activities appropriate to the younger children's ability levels and needs. Activities include canoeing, climbing wall, artificial caving, archery and our exciting new Mini-Beast Safari where, armed with nets and a handy identification guide, they can safely explore the nearby Riverside Valley Park with our experienced instructors to look for all sorts of flora and fauna.

Where, when and why?

Most of our holiday courses utilise purpose-built facilities here at our Centre beside the Exeter canal. Transport to all off-site activities is included with the exception of our Improvers Sailing courses, which take place at the Starcross Yacht Club. Programmes run from 9.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday with the option of an early drop-off and late collection for busy parents. Half day courses run from 9.30am – 12.30pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm. We believe our activity courses and sessions compliment the Every Child Matters initiative launched by the Government , whatever their background or their circumstances. We provide the support young people need to:

  • Stay healthy
  • Be safe
  • Achieve economically
  • Contribute to society positively
  • Enjoy life

If you have any queries about the Centre, its staff or any of the activities, please contact the Centre. As parents, carers or guardians, you are more than welcome visit the Centre to discuss any queries you might have. Please telephone or email us to arrange a visit.

Full day courses run from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Morning courses (including Little Adventurers) are from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and afternoon courses from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.  Arrival for registration opens 10 minutes before the course start time and collection is up to 15 minutes after the finish time. For children booked onto the early/late wraparound cover arrival is from 8:00 am and collection up until 6:00 pm for full day courses. We recommend all children on full day courses bring a packed lunch and drink. Little Adventurers should bring a drink and some snacks for the break between activities. We have a selection of wetsuits here at the centre that can be used but we recommend bringing a dry change of clothes/shoes for days with wet activities. Please note, footwear must be worn whilst on the water and sandals/flip flops are not suitable.
