Rock climbing’s special combination of mental and physical challenges make it a unique experience. Once you’ve tried it, you’re literally
hooked.
Rock-Climbing & Abseiling
The intrinsic rewards that come from combining trust, concentration, agility, balance, strength and judgement
are unequalled in any other sport. Nothing heightens the senses more than the combination of delight and relief that comes from reaching
the top of an achievable,though demanding rock climbing route.
That’s where Haven Banks comes in to its own. Based near Dartmoor, coastal & inland crags we’re surrounded by some of the finest
rock climbing routes & scenary in Britain, There’s also a choice of granite or limestone. With this choice of crags we have we
have the ability to tailor sessions & courses to the ability of the group as well as to the prevailing weather conditions, which
ultimately means you get the most from your time on a rock climbing session.
both climbing & abseiling. Taster sessions offer the opportunity for groups to experience rock-climbing, perhaps for the first
time, on real rock. Crags, routes & the difficulty of the route are assessed by fully qualified and experienced Instructors &
are based on the groups ability. Making a challenging situation enjoyable!
Courses, like those for Adults, are run at a variety of crags, both locally, on the Moor & coastal crags. Content of courses
include equipment selection & maintenance, climbing techniques, ropework, bouldering techniques (climbing without ropes), Introduction
to simple ropework , Belaying (controlling the rope for the climber), Single pitch ascents & abseiling , use of technical equipment
& Crag “etiquette”. Young people can take part as an organised group or by joining one of our many school holiday activity
programs.
As well as rock-climbing, the Centre also offers abseiling, either as part of a rock-climbing session or course
or as a session in itself. We have also been called upon to deliver abseiling on a number of a fund raising charity events.
Dingles, Exeter College, Exeter University and churches are just a few venues we have used for this purpose! If you would like
