Windsurf and Powerboat

Windsurfing is a fantastic & exhilerating sailsport. With modern equipment & new professional teaching methods, it really is easier than you think. Powerboating is for those of you wanting to learn or gain a qualification, in a powered watercraft, such as a sports-boat or RIB.

Windsurfing

Windsurfers are the fastest sailing craft afloat. Haven Banks offers a variety of options for how this exhilerating sport can be used. As an RYA recognised teaching establishment with fully qualified & experienced RYA Instructors, The Centre offers courses for the complete beginner on either a one off taster session or on a "Start Sailing Course". This course will take you from complete beginner, teaching you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment; enabling you to sail to where you want to go to and back to where you started from.

Having mastered the basics, the intermediate windsurfer can move onto an "Intermediate Windsurfing Course" and learn new techniques such as the beachstart, the footstraps & using a harness. This will gear you up

Courses can be used to simply increase your knowledge and confidence, or as a progression to the RYA/MCA Certificates of Competence which are recognised by maritime authorities worldwide. Most courses take place over two days. By taking your course at an RYA Recognised Training Centre, such as Haven Banks, you can expect to be taught by an experienced, qualified instructor.

We feel regardless of age any responsible driver of a powered vessel should receive some type of formal training before going afloat, if not for their sake, for somebody elses. Please also be aware that if you plan to charter a boat abroad an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is also required. ready for the excitement of blasting control. With the introduction of the new Fastfwd coaching fine tuning your basic skills will make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. Course run during weekends, evenings & throughout schools holidays. If you fancy it, some of the best windsurfing can be found during those Autumn & winter months, as well as during the spring & summer!

RYA courses & Intermediate windsurfing groups use the Exe Estuary from Starcross Yacht Club, where the Centre has both a Sailing, Windsurf & Power-boat base, with indroductory sessions taking place on the River Exe

Power-Boating
As an RYA recognised teaching establishment for power-boating, Haven Banks offers power-boat taster sessions and day trips, through to the RYA’s National Powerboat Scheme Level 1, 2 & Safety Boat & the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), as well as national courses for young people from the age of 8yrs old. Courses are designed for those who use small, open powerboats for leisure or work, whether for their own sake or in connection with another activity such as sailing or rescue.
